Center for ESL Department Handbook

Copyediting
Perhaps the most basic of technical communication skills, copy editing is an essential part of almost any project. Editing a section of a department handbook pertaining to admission, registration, and immigration policies required extensive substantive editing in addition to the expected copy edits for grammar and formatting.

Clear communication between the client and me was essential to define expectations and identify an editing plan. We agreed I would focus on consistent voice and style throughout, updating processes, and organizing content. Using paper and digital markup over several rounds of edits, the client happily approved the final product after receiving the finished document and letter of transmittal.

The admission, registration, and immigration policy section of the Center for ESL department handbook now reflects the most up-to-date procedures in a well-organized and uniform way due to my eye for detail and well-developed organizational skills.
