Tree Map Minimalist Poster
Research, analysis, interpretation, and design: skills required to transform data into aesthetically pleasing and easily understood graphics. Creating a tree map for use in a minimalist poster challenged me to select a relevant data set and translate it into a minimalist poster, bridging between Microsoft Excel and Adobe Illustrator.
The data focused on the population of each administrative district in Paris, which I transposed into Excel to create the base tree map.
Upon importing the tree map into Adobe Illustrator, the real transformation began. The map was centered and took up most of the poster space to draw the viewer’s focus. The placement of bounding lines at the top and bottom of the page and subtle callouts, which explained the significance of the graphic, surrounded it, keeping the map as the focus.
My integration of Microsoft Excel with Adobe Illustrator demonstrates my ability to display complex data in an understandable and elegant format.
